Host A Course

NSW Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association (NSWCUSA) is prepared to run a course in Western Zone each off-season. These would normally be scheduled by the end of April at the start of each off-season. Would you like to host a course in your town?

What we need?

1. a date (weekend)
2. a venue
3. 10 or more participants

Suggested "time"-line:

1. have an idea of a venue in the back of your mind;
2. have a fair idea of a number of people likely to want to do the course;
3. choose a date that will suit most people;
4. contact the Western Zone Umpire Rep wzoneumps@gmail.com;
5. The Zone Rep will liaise with NSWCUSA regarding the availability of the date;
6. NSWCUSA will then check their list of available dates;
7. Once a date is confirmed, book the venue;
8. advertise the course widely - in your area and across the zone (the Zone Rep will also work on this);
9. Keep the Zone Rep up-to-date on confirmed participants (getting the $40 (2017 cost) up front is a good way of confirming)

Umpire Course 21 22 June 2025

Please pass this on to all contacts within your cricketing circles within Western Zone. Please ensure you register so we can organise appropriate catering.

to Register for this course please email wzoneumps@gmail.com by Friday 6th June with:
     your name*
     preferred email address
     a contact phone number

* first name and surname as you would like it to appear on official documentation when you pass the course!

Once you register I will advise a payment method, where appropriate. Note that the course is free for existing NSWCUSA members and any female participants.

Why Me???

- umpire "full time" (with no playing or coaching commitments). Once completing the course we are keen to provide support in terms of fieldcraft and general technique not necessarily covered by the laws. Let me know if you would like details about this support.

female umpires are a goal for this Zone. Increasingly women's cricket is using female umpires exclusively up to international level so there are some great opportunities here. Claire Polasak is currently in the role of female engagement for NSW umpires.

- continue playing, and umpire Sunday rep matches. Supporting our district/representative/junior program by umpiring even once or twice a season would be a great help.

- continue playing, and support our finals matches in local competitions if your team "doesn't make it", particularly in the first week of finals.

existing umpires wanting (or needing) a refresher (NSWCUSA members attend free of charge - please still register)

associations: consider whether you would like to make it "compulsory" for each club to send at least one course participant (or even one from each team)
